Approached recently by designers Sugarmonkey to create an assemblage for their decadent display in a designer room at the Autumn Home Show, how could I refuse....a defiant anti recession attitude and great design opulence this should be a highlight at the weekend. Here is a sneak peak of the plates- the Seven Deadly Sins.....I can't wait to see them in an extravagantly lavish setting. update Congrats to Sugarmonkey Interior Designers, Sydney and Hina - Designer room WINNERS and sweeties to boot. They were fab to work with and were the stand-outs on the day, yay!!
Thursday evening was more exciting than the usual going to a gig at newly revamped venue Cassette 9. Not sure what to expect of Swamptech duo Quintron and Miss Pussycat, it soon became a musical highlight for the year so far. Recent rumours made everyone curious to hear the handmade drum machine and keyboard Swamtech New Orleans boogie. Quintron's infamous Drum Buddy invention has been bought by the likes of Laurie Anderson Wilco and most recently Kanye West and when you look at the promo video you'll understand why. A sound you might describe as the B52s meets Electro Voodoo Blues and then deep fried in chicken grease and washed down with plenty of whiskey, the contagious energy and dance inducing duo had the audience enthusiastically joining in a conga line while chanting a chorus of Motherfucking Badass. The hour and a bit set, part of a whistle stop antipodean tour, left everyone wanting a lot more and hopefully they will come back soon if the whiskey doesn't get the better of them..... This plate is my tribute to a great night out, thanks Quintron and Miss Pussycat!
I enjoyed a little hand made retail therapy on local (NZ) site Felt and bought two items from seller SweetWilliam. When they arrived I was delighted they were even better in life than in the photos. Swans are hard to beat as a romantic image and who doesn't chuckle at the kitschy images of Old Lizzie in her finery. Lovely block-mounted prints and printed clay brooches using images of teacups orchids and birds are some of the best items and very affordable- go on spoil yourself, you won't be disappointed!
I know Valentines Day has passed and I probably should have listed these earlier but after watching the current violence courtesy of the daily tv news shows I'm thinking we can never have enough love.....
I loved this plate so when I sold it, I shed a tear- no worries though, it has been resurrected in my new postcard. Now I realize that given the general economic downturn "Loser"was perhaps a bit too topical ...aahh well, I still like the outcome!
I've been planning to do this for sometime and now it's a reality.... all those old metal EPNS silver plated trays were crying out for a good vandalizing. So now with such good results, Nanna better lock up that silver quick smart!
I've always made stuff and wanted to be an artist from the age of 14.I made my way to Art School in the late 80s and graduated with a BFA, majoring in Sculpture. After a short exhibiting career,I quickly discovered being a full time artist doesn't pay the bills, so went the commercial route.
I've worked in graphic design, audio visual and freelance set design as well as garden design and maintenance. In the mid 90s
my boyfriend and I got married at City Hall in Manhattan New York. We eloped actually as no-one knew until we were back home.I have two children, a boy Jasper and a girl Madison, named after Madison Avenue.
