Finders Keepers was a cool adventure for me but one vendor stood out from the crowd in a very clever but understated way. Cross stitch into metal jewelery bracelets brooches and rings by Caro Baertling, check it out ....
Photos from the Sydney Carriageworks design market Finders Keepers This is just set up time before the punters got to drink and shop.... plenty of fabric stuff, fashion, weird creature sculptures, and bad words on plates....
Sydney here I come..... Flying out ridiculously early tomorrow to the Lucky country and hope some of that luck will rub off on me at the Finders Keepers market.... Back in town on the 8th so time to get lots of goodies ready for Kraftbomb on Dec 20th!! So DON'T leave Auckland town too early or you will miss out on a Trixie Christmas!
Last year I designed the awards - A wonderful idea from Mapihi Opai Fashion NZ (FINZ) and so I was chuffed to be asked again this year. Bit of a challenge getting all that onto the Crown Lynn dinner plates but a nice result I think...Congrats to Lonely Hearts, the 2009 winner!
I just pulled out a third Wrath plate from a bake to complete a Seven Deadly Sins assemblage and for the third time a mysterious hairline has appeared on the edge- WTF? Now and again this does happen but three times with the same word over three consecutive days. This set just doesn't want to be completed and I'm starting to think there is something weird going on in my studio......it's almost Halloween!
I 'm pleased to announce that I will be a vendor this year at Finders Keepers, an independent design market in Newtown Sydney and held at the impressive Carriageworks venue...nice to see you there if you can make it......4th & 5th December
Big Cartel was set up for the small business person/ artist/ bands/ crafters to sell less than 100 items with no fees and a direct shopping experience for the customer. My Big Cartel shop links directly to paypal and I will be loading it up for Christmas shoppers especially as I've decided NOT to customize this Christmas.....way too time consuming folks, sorry!
Vandalizing/ modifying/reinventing old china is quite the new art form if this recent show in Lisbon Portugal is anything to go by. Thanks to Jeff Fleming- a repeat trixie offender for the info. He visited the show and thought of me, awww that's sweet!
Awwwww, some people get all gooey eyed about babies and wee cuddly things but I feel the same about my little No 1 hangers. Those pin plates I thought I couldn't do anything with are now ready for a makeover.... picture this, Seven Deadly Sins sets in miniature, a tiny Fuck Face or Dickhead for your wall awwwwwww it's just too cute!!
Pulling plates out of a hot oven is an occupational hazard for me and I've been burned many times when just grabbing a tea towel instead of putting my mitt on. This time however my mitt caused me to burn myself as it caught on the hot oven rack above which stuck to my skin and came out of the oven along with the plate I was carrying... It might be time I bought some burn cream for my studio!
Look for the freak teacup and you'll find my new Big Cartel store. It's in its infancy but I shall be adding more items each week. Customizing it as well once I figure out how..... or hubby does. Pricing is in USD and Paypal is preferred just like Etsy.
Best MJ tribute t-shirt on Etsy so far belongs to Elektra of Coup in NYC. She should know a thing or two about t-shirt designs as Madonna wears her RIDE equestrian themed one as you can see. Free global shipping is also a winner in my book, I wish I could offer it but me plates are a tad too heavy!
Those of you who follow the Rock news will know that Meg White from the White Stripes married Jackson Smith guitarist son of Patti Smith a couple of weekends ago. A friend of mine and former road manager for the Stripes was invited to the wedding in Nashville and so took a plate as a present. Apparently presented to her while she was in her pjs this of course was another wasted photo op, so you'll just have to take my word for it The plate in question, Shameless, and she opened it in her pyjamas...wasted, wasted photo op...man John next time please whip out the camera, be shameless for trixies sake!
I've always made stuff and wanted to be an artist from the age of 14.I made my way to Art School in the late 80s and graduated with a BFA, majoring in Sculpture. After a short exhibiting career,I quickly discovered being a full time artist doesn't pay the bills, so went the commercial route.
I've worked in graphic design, audio visual and freelance set design as well as garden design and maintenance. In the mid 90s
my boyfriend and I got married at City Hall in Manhattan New York. We eloped actually as no-one knew until we were back home.I have two children, a boy Jasper and a girl Madison, named after Madison Avenue.
